Get Ready for Raw Runner Blog

Iam a 41 year old male with a marathon PR of 2:46:42 (2006) and 10km PR of 35:20 (2006) and a half marathon PR of 1:18:57 (2005).

Watch me try for a new marathon PR of 2:39:59 by 2010 and a 10km time of 34:59 in 2007. My goal is to get faster as I get older. I want to be PRing 10-20 years from now at least.

I think the secret is diet, sleep and strategic fasting.

You will hopefully get out of this blog some chuckles and an inside look into the brain of a "age grouper" runner as he seeks to improve his performance in competitive running.

What will make the Raw Runner blog unique will be the focus on the raw vegan diet. Rarely do I read anything sunstantial about diet in my running books or online. In fact I have been laughed off chatlines for even suggesting that what you eat and don't eat is crucial to training and recovery and hence performance.

My goal will be to train hard thanks to a 100% raw vegan diet. However staying true to this diet has been a challenge. I believe, if I can stay raw, I will continue this trend of steadily getting faster by being able to train hard sans injury, lulls in motivation and illness.

I plan on being rigorously honest with my successes and failures so this blog could be a voyeuristic peek into the mind of a regular middle aged guy trying to run with the big dogs using a different approach.

One warning: since this is my blog and Iam not a good typer, my occasional rants may not be nicey nice- takes too many words and time to try and say things without offending anyone. So as a disclaimour: I love you one and all despite what i think of your diet or your ideas about diet. If you run, we are one.
